What's wrong with fantasies? | sarahcantstop's Blog

Came across a very nice lady who was upset -- or claimed she was -- about "inappropriate content" on EP. I had to smile. I always get a kick out of people who devote themselves to seeking out the sins of others. Sometimes .... sometimes .... it says a lot about the seeker. I knew an old retired Baptist preacher who used to say "if you want to know someone's secret vice, listen to what they complain about." Not my clergyman (I'm Jewish), but I always thought that was pretty good wisdom, even for a Gentile. A thing like Experience Project is bound to be full of "inappropriate" stuff. That's the nature of something anonymous like this. On top of that, most of the "offensive" stuff is probably just fantasy anyway. I think fantasy is a healthy way to deal with really dumb ideas without actually doing them. My BF fantasizes about being some kind of Navy SEAL stud, but we both know he'd never make it. He imagines himself shooting many people ("Call of Duty" is his addiction) but I don't think he would ever shoot anybody. It's just for fun, or shock value. If you look back at history, you'll find that that a lot of what used to be considered "inappropriate" or "offensive" is now pretty accepted. My Dad says that interracial marriage, homosexuality and even being an unwed mother were taboo and frowned upon. Now they're everywhere. I'm not saying that NOTHING is offensive -- I suppose there may be a group some day called "I Eat Poop" -- but you want to be careful judging others. Personally, I find Newt Gingrich more offensive than just about anything, but that's another story for another time. This Blog Entry's Comment Board (11 comments)
